A 48-hour charity run for Fondation Princesse Charlène, turned into a playable city-wide experience.

ReadySet partnered with Fondation Princesse Charlène de Monaco to transform the 4x4x48 endurance challenge into a social, gamified weekend — putting water safety and drowning prevention at the heart of every kilometre.

The Brief

A run with a cause — and a gameplay layer.

The 4x4x48 Challenge is designed to test endurance. Originally created by David Goggins, participants run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 consecutive hours — pushing both physical and mental limits across an entire weekend.

In Monaco, every kilometre was run in support of the Fondation Princesse Charlène de Monaco, whose global mission is to save lives by preventing drowning and teaching aquatic safety to children. The foundation's work — from "Learn to Swim" programmes to "Water Safety" education — gave the 48-hour effort a clear, human purpose: every loop around the harbour reinforced a cause that quite literally saves lives.

To match the ambition of the cause, this edition added something unexpected: a multiplayer gameplay layer. Working hand-in-hand with the foundation, ReadySet turned the challenge from a sequence of solo runs into a connected, city-wide experience — checkpoints, missions, progression, and collaboration, all pulling participants and supporters closer to the mission behind the medal.

The Format

An endurance format built around repetition.

Simple in structure but brutal in execution, the 4x4x48 format forces participants to repeatedly return to the course with limited recovery, interrupted sleep, and mounting fatigue. The challenge becomes less about a single run and more about consistency, discipline, and momentum over time.

Twelve runs. Limited recovery. Interrupted sleep. The challenge becomes less about a single distance and more about the discipline of returning — again, and again, and again.

By the second night, the city had become part of the run — every checkpoint a reason to keep moving, every team a reason to come back out.

The Transformation

Adding a gameplay layer to the city.

Rather than simply running between start and finish points, participants interacted with Monaco through gameplay. The city itself became part of the experience.

Using ReadySet, organizers introduced interactive checkpoints, missions, trivia, photo challenges, progression systems, and live leaderboards — between and during runs. The experience created moments of exploration, competition, collaboration, and discovery throughout the entire 48-hour challenge.

Inside the Run

Run 05 — through the streets of Monaco.

One of twelve runs. Captured live by a participant mid-loop — the moment the challenge stopped feeling like an event and started feeling like a city-wide experience.

The Psychology

Maintaining energy across 48 hours.

Long endurance events naturally create emotional highs and lows. By introducing gameplay, the event created smaller moments of reward and progression throughout the experience — turning the weekend into a sequence of small wins rather than one long grind.

  • Momentum between runs

Checkpoints and missions filled the downtime — keeping squads engaged when their bodies wanted to stop.

  • Small wins, often

Progression and points created frequent reward moments — not just one finish line 48 hours away.

  • Casual competition

Friendly leaderboard rivalry kept squads coming back out for the next loop, often together.

  • Memorable beats

Photo missions and discoveries turned the weekend into stories people retold for weeks.

The Social Layer

More than a run.

Some participants split up between checkpoints before regrouping later in the evening. Others compared leaderboard positions between runs while resting at meet-up points throughout Monaco.

What could have become an isolated endurance challenge instead became a shared multiplayer experience — one that encouraged interaction, conversation, and collaboration across the full 48 hours.

  • Squads comparing scores at meet-up points, plotting their next loop together.
  • Splitting up to cover ground, then regrouping with a story to tell.
  • A charity weekend that felt less like a grind and more like a shared adventure.

Operational Simplicity

A scalable layer for live events.

Participants joined directly through the ReadySet app using an event code. No custom hardware. No complicated setup. No standalone event app build. ReadySet handled the gameplay infrastructure so the organizers could focus on the event itself.

  • Checkpoint systems

Geolocated points, missions, and unlock logic — configured per event.

  • Progression logic

Points, badges, and squad progression handled by the platform.

  • Live leaderboards

Real-time ranking across the full event, visible to every squad.

  • Mobile-first

One app, one code, no IT ticket — organizers just share the event code.

Beyond endurance events

The format extends far beyond running.

The same multiplayer gameplay structure adapts across charity activations, corporate team building, city exploration, conferences, tourism, onboarding, and sponsor activations. By combining movement, storytelling, progression, and interaction, ReadySet helps transform physical spaces into connected social experiences.
